Attractions from Johannesburg

Soweto Township (Johannesburg)
Soweto is a large township southwest of Johannesburg. It's a variegated and rather hideous neighbourhood where the black population lives in huts and shanties. Most white South Africans have never been in a township - and especially not Soweto, which is an area in deep social misery. If you want to visit Soweto you should consult some locals and perhaps have a coloured person take you there.
The Adjacent district (Johannesburg)
Adjacent is the centre of several magnificent theatres. The place was known for its counter cultural and rebellious shows during Apartheid but also after the fall of Apartheid. You can also see the more common theatre shows in Civic Theatre in Braamfontein.
The Yeoville district (Johannesburg)
Just outside the centre of Johanneburg lies Yeoville, which, contrary to e.g Soweto, is a safe and peaceful place. The area is somewhat bohemian and in Rockey Street you can have a cappuccino or a café latte at one of the many cafés or bars.
