Victoria that is on the island Mahé, is the smallest capitol in the whole world and it is the only large harbour on Seychelles. It is also the only real city on the islands, because all the others are small villages. Except for a couple of old buildings like the Post Office and the Supreme Court (that have remained untouched since colonial days), almost all of the city has been rebuilt over the past twenty years. This has given the city a modern but also a bit sterile appearance.

Victoria's Botanical Garden is highly recommended for those who appreciate a stroll through the area's original and imported trees. In the garden there is a nice little indoors cafeteria with gigantic tortoises and a beautiful orchid garden.
