Arrived in Antananarivo

Hey there! Be sure to watch the video first, as that is the real introduction to the bloc! (If I ever get it uploaded on the incredible slow Malagasy Internet, that is)

The first two, out of three, border police men I encountered asked me for “gifts” (read: bribe) when I was trying to get my visa. The smallest bill I had on me at that time was some 10 Euro bills, and I quickly decided that I wasn’t gonna pay that! So with I big smile on my face and a promise of a return as soon as I’d changed money I ran to the nearest minibus heading for the city center.

Tana is a busy, but not very interesting city. On every street corner touts are selling everything from electronics to shoes and the city center seems to be one big marketplace. I’m kind of enjoying that; because the majority of people here don’t care who they are selling to as long as they are selling. This makes them pretty uninterested in the fact that I’m white, and I can go along as I want without to much hassle.

But as mentioned before the city isn’t that exciting and the highlights to far have been getting a haircut and sharing a few bottles of rum with a couple of locals, witch were fun, but not very deep as they spoke little English and I speak as well as no French.

I’m gonna leave for the jungle, in a dusty minibus, now. So for the next three or four days I won’t be able to communicate with the civilized world. Until then, enjoy your routine lives back home!

Bonus info: A 33cl bottle of local Malagasy white rum costs 6 DKK or about 1 USD.
