White water rafting and pictures, FINALLY!

Hiya all, here I am again.

I can't tell you, how much I've looked forward to this, finally being able to show you all my pictures. I've sat here for 2 hours now, uploading pictures at a internet place where it says over the screen "No Downloand Upload Please" with big black letters. Nerve wrecking I can tell you, since the manager several times has asked, whether I was uploading or not. "No no, sir, not at all. Just looking through my photos..."! But shit, I have to take advantage when I finally find good and fast internet, some of the best I've experienced in India - ever.

I'll get around to writing a bit for each picture, maybe tonight, maybe during the weekend. I know it's a big mouthfull, but at least you now have some kind of idea of what I've seen and experienced. The pictures are most probably mixed up a bit, and you of course have no clue when they were taken, but! I've tried to put them in relative order in different files.

Enough about that. Yesterday, I went white water rafting. As you'll notice on the picture of me, I was as happy as can be. It was really great - most of the time you're not doing anything, but then suddenly you're thrown into a mad situation where you feel you have to paddle for dear life! :o) I, of course, sat right in front, paddling like mad all the time, not being able to hear the commands of our rafting guide...! ;o))

We all met at 9 o'clock yesterday morning and drove an hour to the start of our trip, about 26 kms from Rishikesh. From there it took us a couple of hours to get back, but we had several fun breaks in between the mad rapids. At one stage, our guide shouted "Get out of the boat!" We were all dumbfounded, not knowing what the hoops to think of that order. In the end, an American girl and I jumped in, the rest following soon afterwards. We then floated/swam 2-300 meters down the river, letting the current push/pull us along. It was great, swimming in the holy river Gangees - ice cold and refreshing.

After rafting, we all (incl. the guide who was a young American guy with Danish roots :-) ) went for lunch at a typical touristy-Indian place called Buddha's Eyes or something like that. The food was alright, the company excellent, and we ended up staying there several hours, just talking about differences in culture, etc.

Today, I'm off on a trekking expedition to one of the ashrams in the area. It's called The Yoga Study Centre and should be one of the best places for yoga in town. Oh, but before I do that I must send some post cards. I promised Julia (the great girl from Deutschland) to send hers from up here, since we never got around to doing it in Delhi. I haven't sent them yet, and she arrived in Germany this Tuesday! :o)) Nobody's perfect, not even Simon E. ;o)

That's all for now, but I'll probably write you soon.

Simon E

  • Simon E, white water rafting down the holy river Gangees! ;o) (taken yesterday, 16.10.2008)

  • I think Shiva, sitting gigantic and marble-white in the Gangees. Every night, they perform a special ceremony here - candles are lit and put in little leaf boats. These are then placed in the water, floating romantically down the river... :-)
