Chinggis Khaans Wall

The ruins of Chinggis Khaan's wall stretch over 600 kilometres from Khentii Aimag to China. In reality the wall was not built by Chinggis Khaan but by the Manchu, who built it to keep the Mongolian hordes at bay.

The Convent Erdene Zuu Khiid

Erdene Zuu means "hundreds of treasures". The convent is the first Buddhist centre in Mongolia. Its construction started in 1586, but it was first finished more than 300 years later. During Stalin's purges in 1932 most of the convent was destroyed, but after the fall of Communism it has regained much of its previous splendour.

The Convent Gandantegchinlen Khiid

Loosely translated Gandantegchinlen means "the big place for total pleasure". The convent is still one of the most important in Mongolia and is a magnificent sight. The construction of the convent started in 1838, but was not finished until many years later. Today over 150 practicing monks live at the convent.

The Convent Manzshir Khiid

You will find the convent in the Töv province in central Mongolia. When it was founded in 1733 the convent had over 20 temples and housed 300 monks. Unfortunately it was destroyed during Stalin's purges in 1932. Parts of the convent have been restored so you can easily imagine its grandness.

The Hot Springs Near Shargaljuut

Shargaluut is the largest attraction in the Bayankhongor Aimag Province in the Gobi Desert. Over 300 hot and cold springs spout out of the earth near Shargaluut. The hot springs that can reach temperatures of up to 50o are said to be able to cure diseases and ailments. The area is also interesting, because dinosaur fossils have been found there.

The Mother Rock.

The Mother Rock is situated near the village of Khöshigiin in the Töv province. The Mongolians visit this sacred rock that is said to have supernatural powers, to seek advice and guidance. The ground around the rock is also sacred; therefore it is not permitted to remove the garbage that is lying on the ground.

The Waterfall Orkhon Khürkhree

This magnificent waterfall can be found in the Övörkhangai province in central Mongolia. Volcanic deposits and earthquakes created the falls about 20.000 years ago. The waterfall is also called Ulaan Tsutgalan.

There is a lake in the park where you can rent boats in the summer and go ice-skating in the winter.
