Appomattox in Virginia is the place where General Robert E. Lee surrendered to captain Ulysses S. Grant in April 1865, marking the end of the civil war in the United States. The surrender took place in the Appomattox courthouse, which is today a part of a national historical park including old restored buildings and lots of other historical artifacts.
