Best time to visit

Something is happening all year round in St Petersburg, but if you don't like the cold, you should visit the city during the summer. The warmest months are June, July and August, but this is also a very rainy period.

Culture and entertainment

There's a couple of days in the end of June, where it never gets dark, and where the tourist oriented White Nights Dance Festival is held, with participants from all over dance their way through the Russian folk dances. From December 25 to January 5, there's a festival for the Russian winter, and in late February the Russians say goodbye to the winter again outside of the city, where you can see trained bears.

Accommodation / Hotel

As in Moscow, the overnight accommodation in St Petersburg isn't impressive. The major hotels are ridiculously expensive, so the best place to sleep is in a hostel, which is relatively cheap, and near the city centre. Book your hotel in St. Petersburg here

Local transport

You can either use the check patterned official taxis or the private ones. In both cases you should agree on the price before going anywhere.

Other transport

As in Moscow, the St Petersburg metro is excellent and beautifully decorated, and is quite an attraction in itself.

Special conditions

Don't drink the tap water in St Petersburg, as it contains the horrible Giardia Lamblia parasite, which causes diarrhea, stomachaches and nausea.
