Travel preparation

Best time to visit

In terms of weather it is recommended not to visit Masai Mara during the rainy springtime. During the high season in July and August the park squirms with tourists in minibuses, this really detracts from the 'wild' experience.

Accommodation / Hotel

There are many good accommodation possibilities in and outside of Masai Mara, both in the form of lodges and tent camps. The lodges are of varying standards and many of them have waterholes nearby that attract animals. There are also more primitive tent camps, this is a more authentic experience than staying in a lodge, and here you are only separated from nature by a tent! Local transport

Other transport

One can drive in their own car to Masai Mara, but chances are that you will not see as many animals as you would on a guided tour. Mini-buses with a driver who knows the area are the preferred mode of transport in Masai Mara; one can also try a Luxury Safari in a Hot Air Balloon.
