Travel guide to Thailand Islands

Travel preparation

Best time to visit

The ideal time to go depends on which island you are planning to visit. If you are going to Koh Samui you should avoid October and November, because the Weather Gods like to play tricks on tourists and cook up a good deal of wind and rain. During these months the northern islands Koh Samet and Koh Chang are good alternatives. If Phuket is your chosen destination then the weather is best from November to March.

Local conditions

Time zone

When the time is 12:00 in England it is 19:00 on the islands. Thailand does not change to summertime so during the summer there is only a five-hour time difference.

Culture and entertainment

Along the beaches of the tourist islands you can windsurf, swim, snorkel, water ski, and much more. Phuket and Koh Samui have a well-developed arrangement of amusements, among others you can see drag shows and monkey shows, and they also have a load of discotheques and nightclubs. In the city of Phuket the religious and musical Chinese Vegetarian Festival is held in the end of September.

Accommodation / Hotel

Accommodations on Koh Samui and Phuket cover the whole spectrum from small huts to bungalows to large luxury hotels. On Koh Samet on the other hand accommodations are more minded towards backpackers so here camping and modest huts are dominate. Book your hotel in Thailand Islands here

Local transport

Phuket has lots of taxis and it is a good idea to negotiate the price first. On Koh Samui there are not any real taxis, but instead mini-busses that function as taxis in the evening.

Other transport

On several of the islands for example Koh Chang and Phi Phi Island transportation between the islands' cities and beaches is done by boat.
