Istanbul

Istanbul is the biggest city in Turkey, found in the north east of the country. Best known for being the physical and cultural link between Europe and Asia, this city is popular with sightseeing tourists and corporate businesspeople alike, which means cheap flights to Istanbul are fairly easy to come across, wherever you’re traveling from and whatever time of year you want to visit.

Istanbul receives a blend of three different climates – a borderline Mediterranean climate, humid subtropical climate and oceanic climate, due to its unique location. Despite its complex climate system, the city’s weather is fairly predictable, with humid weather in the northern regions, and warmer drier weather in the south region. Since the city experiences a colder-than-average winter when compared to other cities in the Mediterranean Basin, this is the best time of year to travel if you want to pick up some low-cost flights to Istanbul.

If you choose to visit Istanbul during the mild summer months, there are plenty of outdoor activities available for you to enjoy. You can while away hours wandering around the historic areas of the city, relax in the picturesque Emirgan Park or see the whole of Turkey in miniature at Miniaturk. On the other hand, if you decide to take advantage of budget flights to Istanbul during the winter months and suffer from bouts of rainfall, there are loads of indoor activities available to keep visitors entertained, too. The religious site of the Sukeymaniye Mosque is one of the most popular attractions in the city, as is the child-friendly Rahmi M. Koc Museum and the ancient Basilica Cicstern.

When you’ve had your fill of architectural wonders, religious structures and historical sites, there’s still a wealth of things to see and do within the city. The exciting Bisphorus boat tours, interactive Istanbul Aquarium, child-friendly Play ‘n’ Learn and Istanbul Modern art gallery all provide hours of fun whatever the weather.
