The Beaches

The greatest attractions on Mahé are the islands fantastic beaches. All depending on which beach you choose you will find tall waves, calm waters, high tide or low tide. That is why you can practice all types of water sports on the island.

Seychelles

Anse Lazio beach

Anse Lazio is Seychelles and Praslin's best beach. The water has a remarkable turquoise colour, and the round waves roll vivaciously on to the fantastic soft white beaches. There is also a good area for snorkeling at the beach that is protected by a reef.

Beau Vallon beach

Beau Vallon is one of the largest and most popular beaches on Mahé. There are big waves to romp in and big stones in the water that create platforms that you can swim out to. The sand is nice, clean, and pretty much stone free.

Cousin National Park

The national park is not more that 2 kilometres from Mahé by boat. The park is owned by The Royal Society for Nature Conservation and is administered by ICBP that is an international bird protection organization. Several rare bird species live on the island. Cousin can only be visited on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Michael Adams Studio

Michael Adams is an esteemed artist who has his studio on the southwest part of Mahé. Michael Adams paints the landscape and people on Seychelles, and his paintings are famous for their vibrant and happy colours.

Silhouette Island

This island has been called mysterious and is right out of a pirate movie. Three hills rise from the beach, they are covered by forest, and the island got its name because of the beautiful silhouette that is outlined against the sunset. It has been told that there are pirate's treasures buried in the topsoil of the hills.

Ste Anne National Marine Park

Ste Anne National Marine Park consists of six islands off the coast of Mahé. The national park was founded in 1973 and was the first of its kind in the Indian Ocean. Moyenne is the island that is best to visit, and it is famous for the many treasures that are said to be buried in the sand.

The Coral Reef at Aladabra Atoll

Aladabra is one of the world's largest coral reefs. The reef stretches over 22 kilometres and surrounds an enormous lagoon, where the tide rules. Sometimes Tiger Sharks live in the lagoon, and it was originally home to the big tortoise.

Smaller Island in the Seychelles

Curieuse Island

Curieuse lays less than a kilometre from Praslin. The island was discovered in 1768 and is named after the captain of the ship that first landed there. Today the island is a national park and is home to a large number of land and sea birds. At present work is being done to try and reinstate the big tortoises on the island.

Fregate Island

Fregate is the island in Seychelles Archipelago that is farthest East. The last few pairs of the endangered Copsychus Sechellarum (that is a little robin-like bird), as well as the endangered Tenebrionid Beetle that is very big, live on the island.

Victoria

The Museum of Natural History

The Museum of Natural History is situated in the middle of the city, and has specialized itself in describing the development of Seychelles nature. There is a fine collection of bones from the extinct Seychelles crocodile, and the gigantic bandit-crabs, as well as dried fish. Moreover there is an exhibition of wreckage from old shipwrecks.

The National Museum

The National Museum describes Seychelles history, tradition, and music, and it also has good exhibitions that depict how spices have been grown on the islands through out time.

Victorias Botanical Garden

Victoria's Botanical Garden is highly recommended for those who appreciate a stroll through the area's original and imported trees. In the garden there is a nice little indoors cafeteria with gigantic tortoises and a beautiful orchid garden.
